Cam degreeing close-up shots

Posted February 21, 2010

These are pictures I took while degreeing the cam on the CL175 street bike. I thought others interested in this subject (explored in the Group W article on cam degreeing) would like to see some shots of the adjustable cam in place, as well as my solution for a degree wheel pointer.

The degree wheel pointer is two pieces of brass flat stock (what I had lying around) about 2" wide and 1/8" thick. I've cut a 9.5mm wide slot in the two pieces, so they can pass around the center casting support in the cooling fins. Nothing fancy, and I just threaded the lower piece for M6 bolts, which I also had a ready supply of. The two pieces clamp down on one of the cooling fins, and it's pretty solidly mounted -- not much worry about knocking the pointer out of alignment, as long as you're not too rough with anything.
